It's incredible! I've successfully updated Boss 2.0r1 to Kev 3.0!!!

There was several insignificant errors. I used dpkg -i --force-all for package 'grisbi' (like Alan wrote before). Then I could run Kev with parsix64-2.6.29.3.1. OpenOffice was marked as broken in Synaptic. And I made 'dist-upgrade' again with flag -f.

I've noticed the same serious problem that was in Boss. When I change themes and backgrounds in gnome-appearance or add applets and apps-launchers to gnome-panels it is often required restart 'gdm' for changes will take effect.

Root terminal doesn't start from Applications menu. User terminal starts normally.

Now I'm trying to update parsix64-kernel from 'parsix.2.6.29.3.1' to 'parsix.2.6.29.4.1' but some modules are not available yet.

My sources.list is:
# Debian Testing
# deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
# deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free

# Parsix Official
deb http://packages.parsix.org/official kev main contrib non-free
deb-src http://packages.parsix.org/official kev main contrib non-free

# Parsix Continent
deb http://packages.parsix.org/continent kev main contrib non-free
deb-src http://packages.parsix.org/continent kev main contrib non-free

# Security
# deb http://security.parsix.org boss main contrib non-free
# deb-src http://security.parsix.org boss main contrib non-free

# Debian Multimedia
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main

Friends, tell me please is this list correct?

My hardware is: Athlon X2 6000+, Elitgroup m/b on nVidia chipset, ATI 3850, 4GB DDR2 1066.

One more question. Is there anybody who successfully set up 'fglrx' on Parsix64 with ATI 3850 or 4350?

P.S. Right now I've successfully installed parsix.2.6.29.4.1 and I've got Parsix GNU/Linux 3.0r0-EXPERIMENTAL, kernel 2.6.29-parsix64-4!

Sound works perfectly in all three players: gxine, totem and vlc. But vlc deforms video like we can see on the screenshot.
http://masssimino.popolznovenie.ru/files/2009/05/kev-video.png

I use onboard nVidia audio and ATI with 'vesa'. I can't try 'fglrx' because Synaptic gives me 'unresolving dependenses':
fglrx-driver:
Depends: xserver-xorg (>=1:7.4+1) but 1:7.3+18 is to be installed

1) VLC problem -> Tools -> Prefs. -> Video -> Output set to default, but it crashes when Compiz is active. Still the same old bug.

2) I confirm ATI problem. Its X.Org 7.4 compatible. I'm waiting for X.Org 7.4 to enter testing. Older driver version 9-2 is not 2.6.29 kernel compatible.

3) GNOME 2.26 moved sound themes to Volume control tool. Applications -> Sound and Video -> Volume control. There is a new tab called "Sound Theme" but is not working. I'll work on that too.

4) I confirm root terminal problem.

Thanks. Anybody can test the new nVidia drivers?

180.51 was installed as usually smoothly. I have taken out ATI and was switched on onboard nVidia-8200. VLC works well now. I didn't change anything in preferences at all. There was 'default' in 'video output'.

Hello,
I successfully upgrade boss 64 to kev 64. I had only 2 problems the first was some permission problems in /etc/rc5.d related to network manager and S20dhcbd, I changed the permissions and so far so good. The second was the splash image is not in my /boot/grub directory so I commented out the line in menu.lst that calls it. I am really enjoying this distro so far. Keep up the good work.
regards,
wlake

masssimino I really appreciate if you can test Parsix Kev compiled native 180.44 drivers.

wlake, install gfxboot grub-gfxboot and gfxboot-theme-parsix and add this line to your /boot/grub/menu.lst file:

Code:
gfxmenu /boot/message.hd

root gnome-terminal problem should be fixed now.

alan,
Thanks for your reply. Two other messages I noticed during the boot process. 1: modprobe: FATAL could not load /lib/modules/2.6.29-parsix64-4/modules.dep. The file is there I checked. And 2: nvidiafb coud not request pci regions. I have an nvidia geforce go 7400 but am not using the nvidia driver. I would also test your driver if I knew how to fix my system in case I crash it.

regards,
wlake

Alan, I don't know how to kill 180.51.
First I switched on vesa and installed only:
1) nvidia-kernel-2.6.29-parsix64-4 (version 180.44-2+1)
2) nvidia-kernel-common (version 20080825+1)
Everything looks like ok:
http://masssimino.popolznovenie.ru/files/2009/05/screenshot-nvidia-x-server-settings.png
But version was 180.51. However Parsix worked better than this change was made. Then I've installed another packages as shown on the screenshot:
http://masssimino.popolznovenie.ru/file ... anager.png
Now 'gdm' don't want to start with 'nvidia' because of version conflict. (180.44 vs 180.51) And I can only start with 'vesa'.

Root-terminal is ok. Gnome-panel became very cool.

Parsix-nvidia-180.44 is ok.
http://masssimino.popolznovenie.ru/file ... ings-1.png
Nvidia's pkg.run has simple command --uninstall. This great idea for unknown reason never came to me earlier. Then I've reinstalled parsix-kernel-module and all packages related to 180.44.

With the recent updates, services and users control center applet problems and multimedia keys should be fixed now. To make sound events working, update to the latest available libcanberra packages, open sound theme tab from volume control applet, change alert sound to a different option and revert it back. Sounds should start working.
