| Take a look at this theme http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show. ... tent=99810 Its not a dark theme its light blue very sharp and clean with really good menu and sub menus one of the best themes I have seen. These icons match the above theme http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show. ... tent=99470 Together this makes a very professional looking setup? |

Yes mandog, it's an interesting theme but with blue... again blue, too many themes are blue, even Windows. It would not be possible to choose another color please? We should find an "original" color, Parsix would be unique...
But I hate the current dark theme and it is unusable in some situations so I always change the theme in Parsix after install. Please don't use a dark theme like now, it's unusable. Thanks. |

I'm a big fan of blue as well. I'm currently using Nodoka along with the orange "Human" icon set that comes with Parsix, and the original Aquarius background.
The dark themes (e.g. Ramon-Dark and Viola-Dark) are fun to play with, but not very practical for everyday use.
The red "Flower From My Garden" wallpaper in Boss Skua is gorgeous. Definitely a keeper. It'd be very interesting to have a red window theme to go with it. See, for example, Clearlooks-Colors, which includes a red window theme (it also contains blue, orange, and green themes). It comes with a matching icon set so that you could have red icons.
Here's how that might look.
Although it'd be very interesting to have a red "light" and "dark" theme based on the Aurora theme engine. |

hi there,
i strongly agree with BlueKnight. Too much Desktop themes, colors and wallpapers are blue. For Parsix we should choose something other.
Otherwise i dont like a dark theme too, so i would go with eco2geek and recommend a red one.
Like Linux Mint is green, Parsix could be a shade of red - the "Flower From My Garden" wallpaper in Boss Skua is very great! |

| I've just tried some red themes and in my mind dark red is back to where you are now, light red is to feminine, also red is Debian, To brighten up you need light colours and unfortunately light blue and light green lend themselves to the task rather well and they are restful to the eyes, or a neutral colour maybe. |

Red? Why not but mandog, when I speak about dark theme I speak especially about the bottom, the background of the windows which should be clear, bright... not black! And the text color = black! The "decorations" (eg windows title bar or the selected items...) can be a bit dark with white fonts, it is not embarrassing.
In Viola and Boss, I took the colors of the Ramon-Looks theme, they are quite good, but keeping the colors of the Viola and Boss themes just for "Selected elements" (background and text)
And if it's possible, change the icon theme, I don't like the Ubuntu icons, thanks If you want keep orange icons, I like well and use Tangerine... |

| Whatever, as long as it's not orange and brown! Yuck! Themes are so superficial and easily changed; there's no way to please everyone. |

Very true - one of the first things most people probably do after installing a distro is go in search of a new theme. (Especially if that distro's Ubuntu.) Although I really liked Parsix 1's light "Ramon" themes and still use them. |

That is very true I change themes to suit how I feel. |

Hmm maybe but I'm not so sure... If the theme is not bad some people doesn't change it, they will just make some adjustments, and "easily changed"? Not so much as that, when changing the complete theme (splash screen etc.), it takes some unnecessary time and a black theme as the current quickly can put off the user who is trying the distro and can make he/she quickly go elsewhere ... (I know such people)

Yes Ramon light themes are quite good, especially Ramon-Looks, except for the blue and the Ubuntu icons... |

I like Default Parsix 2.0 theme very much. This is the only one GNOME theme that I don't want to customize at all. But there is several little points which - on my opinion - could be improved. For example almost invisible text in several places:
1. Software Sources dialog box - Parsix Software tab - 'Main server' button.
2. Appearance Preference dialog box - Background tab - 'Full screen' and 'Solid color' buttons.
3. Nautilus - 'Icon/List/Compact view' button.
4. Text in Open Office dialog boxes.
5. Text on 'OK, Cancel, Help, Reset' buttons in Paragraph and Character Open Office dialog boxes.
6. OO buttons pop-up notes. |

I don't think that OS-artwork is a question of subjective preferences. When you go through dozens of the OS-artworks (not only GNOME or Linux), you inevitably develop a criteria of estimation, intuitive and well-founded at the same time. And it is inevitable that you will place any new OS-art-work somewhere between the finest and the ugliest.
If you work with a lot of text and graphics for many hours a day, color-balanced OS-artwork is as important for you as the stability of the base system. Firstly, it gives you a positive mood, and secondly, you get tired much less, performing your daily work.
Viola and Boss have the finest GNOME's I've ever seen. They are expressive, stylish and most importantly - comfortable for the eyes. Certainly I was expecting from Kev something fantastic. But unfortunately, dear developers, this time the current artwork hasn't reached the highest level of the previous artworks.
The background is in mid-tones and seems a little bit uncomfortable. 'Kev's light' seems flat, not contrasty, the main windows color (RGB:129,102,71) is not light or dark enough, I quickly get tired of it. 'Kev's dark' feels quite heavy, the main windows color (RGB:48,37,25) doesn't go well with tooltips gray (RGB:62,62,62). These dark-brown window frames seem to dominate over everything on the desktop.
Finally I've taken 'Unity' decoration, painted it light-emerald, added 'Gnome-Wise' green icons and made deep-green-to-black gradient background. Gradient is a sign of art impotence. But what else is left for me to do? I have to work somehow...
It looks like this:
http://masssimino.popolznovenie.ru/files/2009/08/sc-br-2.png
Also I can take 'Amaranth' and slightly tune it:
http://masssimino.popolznovenie.ru/files/2009/08/sc-agr.png
...or I can try 'Gorilla' with 'Darklooks':
http://masssimino.popolznovenie.ru/files/2009/08/sc-gorilla.png
It's not difficult to change everything but I really want something new and beautiful in Parsix unique and well recognised style.
I really hope that you, dear developers, won't get angry for my criticism. Obviously from a user's point of view everything looks a little different, than from the developers'. |
