Hey,
I'll start by saying it's looking realy good. The artwork is amazing as always.
I have 2 problems:
1. I can't open anything from the 'places' menu anymore. I get an error saying: Could not open 'file:///something/something' No application is registered as handling this file.
When I drag one of the 'places' on the desktop, I can open it normally in nautilus. So links on the desktop work.
2. I've been configuring scim for japanese input. It works now, but seems to have taken over my wlan config.
/etc/network/interfaces looks like this:
# /etc/network/interfaces -- configuration file for ifup( , ifdown(
# The loopback interface
# automatically added when upgrading
auto lo wlan0
iface lo inet loopback
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wireless-nwid GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.9
wireless-mode GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.9
wireless-channel GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.9
wireless-ap GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.9
pre-up KEY=$(cat /etc/network/wep.wlan0) && iwconfig wlan0 key $KEY
wireless-essid Launching a SCIM daemon with Socket FrontEnd...
pre-up /sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.9
iwspy GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.9
iwpriv GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.9
/etc/network/wep.wlan0:
Launching a SCIM daemon with Socket FrontEnd...
Reconfiguring it with the Parsix network configuration doesn't help. I circumvented the problem for now by enabling the NetworkManager applet. |

Hi,
1) Did you install anything extra or more updates from Debian? Because on my systems, I can't reproduce that bug.
2) Kev is gonna use NetworkManager as default networking stack. |

Thanks for looking into it. I'll keep using NetworkManager. Seems to work perfectly for me (I did like the fact that my network connection was up and running before I logged in, though).
I created a new user and logged into that account. 'Places menu' works fine in there. So it may just be something I messed up. It is kinda my experimental partition, so I did pull in some stuff from sid. It would be hard to track exactly what caused it. |

| Mandog, brasero is replacing nautilus-cd-burner. This is a brand new 2.26.2 version. Please try it and let me know if it has any problems. |

Did a dist-upgrade from 'Boss Skua' to 'Kev'. Nice artwork as usual. Screenshot:
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/5913/kevscreenshot.png
"1133 upgraded, 148 newly installed, 12 to remove, and 4 not upgraded.
Need to get 1429MB/1429MB of archives.
After this operation, 656MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?"
The only big deal (?) was that I had to generate my own initramfs (probably because the new kernel modules for kernel 2.6.29-bigmem-parsix-8 had not yet been installed when the installation routine called update-initramfs).
There's a permissions problem with i.s.o.m.a.s.t.e.r (why doesn't PHP like that word?) in the Kev repos.
It would be nice if the installer created symlinks for the initramfs and kernel in /boot or /. Makes it easier for me because another distro's GRUB controls this box.
Your pre-built nvidia driver works great.
Some dialog boxes have the "shortcut" underscore beside the letter rather than under it, as in "_Close".
Some questions:
- When's a Kev live CD going to be available? (Not that I'm greedy or anything.
)
- Has anyone enabled the Debian Testing repo and allowed it to update Parsix? How did that work for you?
(I know Parsix's "mission" is not to have rolling updates, but that's one thing I miss. I'd like to have a sort of Sidux but with Testing instead of Sid.) |

Don't mix repros in Kev its in testing, that will only make it hard for the developers when you break things. Mixing repros on Parsix stable is not recommended unless you know what you are doing as things can break its down to you if you take that chance as you are adding software that is untested.
Unlike Arch Linux that uses mainly vanilla software and its down to you to make it work, Debian patches its software to be compatible for Debian. Parsix being a Parsix Distro is running out of sync with Debian Stable, and uses its own packages patched for Parsix stable or testing.
So you can sometimes run into problems that why Kev is testing and Boss is stable.
And please report any problems with Kev so as with previous releases kev stable works for most people when it is released hopefully in August. |
